Dave Holt for DeKalb County Commissioner
"I believe all taxpayers deserve representation, regardless of zip code"
"I believe all taxpayers deserve representation, regardless of zip code"
My name is Dave Holt, and I’m proud to call Waterloo home, where I live with my wife, Angie, and our four children. Seven years ago, we made the move to DeKalb County from a small rural town in Kentucky, where we spent years running a beef cattle farm. Angie, a DeKalb County native, was offered a leadership role in the family business, Rathburn Tool & Manufacturing in Auburn. It was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up—one that brought us closer to family and to the community we now cherish as home for our children.
I began my career in commercial construction as an electrician and, through hard work and dedication, I worked my way up over the years. Over the past 20 years, I was fortunate to have worked for the largest U.S. construction management contractor on projects including high-rise buildings, public schools, infrastructure facilities, judicial facilities, hospitals, universities, and sports stadiums. This experience has given me comprehensive expertise in budget analysis, risk management, estimating, procurement, and contract negotiation across public and private sectors.
These experiences have equipped me with strong leadership skills, strategic planning abilities, and a focus on effective resource management—skills I know will serve our county well.
Having entered retirement, I am committed to contributing to the community that has shown such generosity and support to my family and me. I am guided by principles of transparency, fiscal responsibility, and equitable representation for all residents of DeKalb County.
That’s why I am excited to announce that I will be running as a Republican for DeKalb County Commissioner in 2026. Over the next few months, leading up to the May primary, I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible and hearing your thoughts, concerns, and ideas. Your voice matters to me, and I am committed to representing your interests.
Too many times elected officials develop a mentality of "I know best" and suffer from tunnel vision. This leads to decisions being made without actively listening to the taxpayer. Special interest groups sway decisions based upon the promise of increasing revenue for the county without anyone asking what the effect will be on the county as a whole.
I will ask the tough questions
I believe open communication is the key to success. I want to hear about your concerns, issues or ideas.
